Earlier this year, Big K.R.I.T. dropped his much-anticipated mixtape Return Of 4Eva, with stand-out tracks including “Rotation”, “My Sub”, “Free My Soul”, and “Country Sh*t” Remix ft. Ludacris & Bun B. Due to Return Of 4Eva being comprised of original, stellar material, I’m hesitant to call this a mixtape-free album describes it better. The production is superb (dirty south meets 70s funk is the best way I can describe it), and if he ever performs with a live band, the energy is going to be CRAZY.
K.R.I.T.’s a proud country boy (he hails from Meridian, MS), but he doesn’t limit himself to the recurring memes that so many rappers focus on. Don’t get me wrong, he covers life and his affinity for tight whips, beautiful women, and the almighty dollar, but he also incorporates his thoughts on racism, politics, and social matters to balance it out. There’s a well-rounded depth to his storytelling, which makes Return Of 4Eva a solid, cohesive project. Good music indeed.
Recommended for: Fans of Outkast, Goodie Mob, David Banner and UGK (side note: his delivery at various points is eerily reminiscent of Pimp C’s. RIP).
