The 1st Annual Indie Style Market will take place on Saturday, May 7th, 2011 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Event Center at the TN Flea Market (7460 Winchester, Memphis, TN 38125). Also known as ISM, the Spring Show follows a successful Christmas Market held on South Main last December.
Organized by the Memphis Melange Etsy Team, the event will showcase handmade products and the makers that create them. There will also be a craft class for kids hosted by local authors Amie Plumley & Andria Lisle, who recently released Sewing School.
There will also be a special screening of Faythe Levine’s documentary “Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft, & Design“, a film that looks at the emergence of the creative community and the creative life embraced by so many.
Admission is only $5.
50% of the ticket proceeds will go to support the ASC, a local non-profit organization whose mission is to provide free autism support services to local children.
The remaining 50% of the ticket proceeds will be used to open a community creative studio called Make, where locals will be able to learn a variety of creative skills such as sewing and jewelry-making. The studio will be a space to engage your creativity and to connect with others doing the same. Make will also be a source of information and support for the entrepreneurially-minded looking to make a business based on their creative talents.
ISM’s sponsors include Etsy.com, The Fabric Source in Jackson, TN, BurdaStyle.com, and Keep It Local TN, a new venture aimed at improving the local economies of Tennessee communities.
There are still a few vendor spaces available. Call 901-413-3458 for more information.

This is a great opportunity for local crafters to sell some of their merchandise, and for those who love finding unique and one of a kind treasures that are sometimes hard to come across unless you’re online on traveling. I don’t know about you but I’m excited.
