African-American Icons Celebrated During “Fashion is My Passion”
Memphis, Tenn.--Memphis Urban League Young Professionals (MULYP) continues with the second installment of its “Black History Year Celebration” series with “Fashion is My Passion” to be held 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31st at Jack Robinson Art Gallery, 44 Huling Ave. The purpose of the series is to host events that commemorate the outstanding works of historical African-Americans while identifying their successors of today.
Fashion has been one of the few things that has transcended time. Over the years there have been quintessential fashion icons that not only shaped trends but defined an era. “Fashion is My Passion” will showcase the design work of local talent who will individually choose one fashion icon of the past to model their clothing after. These designs will be showcased at a fashion show where we will hear about the lives of the designers as well as their icons of the past. In addition to the fashion show, attendees can expect to see spoken word artists, musical talent, and enjoy local cuisine and beverages.
Tickets are $15 for MULYP members; $20 for non-members; and $25 for VIP seating. Tickets can be purchased online here.
