Grizzlies' visit St. Jude

Memphis, Tennessee – To celebrate the continued support that Grizzlies House provides, a group of Memphis Grizzlies’ players visited patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and their families when they hosted a tea party on Thursday, March 15 at 2:30 p.m.

Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol, Tony Allen, Quincy Pondexter, Dante Cunningham, Jeremy Pargo and Hamed Haddadi visited with St. Jude patients and families at Grizzlies House while joining them in playing games, signing autographs, posing for photos and decorating cookies.

As the tip-off of Hoops for St. Jude Week, this event is also an opportunity to create awareness for the Hoops for St. Jude initiative, of which Gay and Gasol serve as ambassadors. Hoops for St. Jude is a unique league-wide fundraising and awareness initiative that encourages players, teams and fans to turn their passion for basketball into hope for children battling cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude. Funds raised through this program help St. Jude provide the best care to the world’s sickest children at no cost to their family. Hoops for St. Jude is supported by the community outreach efforts of NBA Cares.

Opened in 2004, Grizzlies House is located on the campus of St. Jude and serves as a short-term housing facility for children undergoing treatment at St. Jude and their families. The Memphis Grizzlies organization pledged $5 million toward the construction of the $10 million facility and continues to support Grizzlies House and St. Jude through a variety of initiatives, such as player visits, promotion of the national St. Jude Thanks and Giving and Hoops for St. Jude campaigns, game ticket donations and fundraising auctions.
