Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival

April 17, 2016 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm

Free

Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival is the largest one-day crawfish festival in the Mid-South, with over 16,000 pounds of fresh Louisiana crawfish hauled direct from the bayou to Memphis for the occasion. The free admission festival will feature live Cajun and Zydeco music from Lafayette’s Bayou Boyson the Southland Park Gaming and Racing Main Stage, the ever-energetic swamp soul band Marcella + Her Lovers on the C Spire Beale Street Stage, and Memphis’ tightest jam band, Freeworld, on the Monogram Foods Riverside Stage. As always, the Beale Street Stage will also be home to the live crawfish bob, crawfish eating contest, and crawfish races.

The event also features food and drinks, contests, prizes and family fun for festival-goers of all ages. For those not partial to the official state crustacean of Louisiana, there will be plenty of food vendors offering everything from BBQ, to hot wings, to traditional carnival fare.

Twenty-four gumbo teams will make some groceries and compete in the annual Cash Saver Gumbo Cook-Off to see who’s batch of gumbo is good enough to claim this year’s skillet trophy and prize money. Children can play a wide variety of age-appropriate games at the Orion Federal Credit Union Kid’s Corner on Riverside Drive. Those seeking the true, complete Cajun experience can purchase tickets in advance for the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Swamp VIP Tent featuring unlimited crawfish and drinks for $100 per person and $175 per couple from noon until 5. Additionally, to get a prime view of the main stage, Bayou Boys Bash tables are available for $175, and provides 24 beer tickets per party of eight.Last, for those who cannot stay and enjoy the festival, or who just want a quick bucket of mudbugs to go, a crawfish to go area will be set up at the corner of Riverside and Union.

Other event sponsors include Hicks Convention Services, AS Barboro, Henry Turley Co., Cumulus, Transactions First, Pepsi, Kelley & Associates, Riverfront Development Corporation and AutoZone.
